I met God, She’s Black

This article at thehumanist.com caught my attention. It refers to a t-shirt godblack-300x300 by New York artist Dylan Chenfeld which states that “I Met God She’s Black”. The point being that assuming God is a white male is something unique to Western Europe and America. Why would God have a gender? Why would God have a skin color? God in the form of a human (Jesus) would of course have a gender and skin color (i.e., ethnicity). His skin color would have been more brown than “white”. That Jesus’ gender is male rather than female simply reflects stereotypes about which gender is stronger. As anyone not blinded by religion can see the physical characteristics of God are cultural constructs meant to make it easier to understand God.
